Espoo Folk Music Society » Short History
Welcome to this web site of the Espoon kansanmusiikkikilta (Espoo Folk Music Society).
The Society was founded year 1975 with late Timo Koski, a folkmusicplayer from Espoo as the first chairman. He was also active when such folkmusic associations as Suomen Pelimanniyhdistys (Finnish Folk Music Players' Society), today known as Suomen Kansanmusiikkiliitto (Finnish Folk Music Association) and Uudenmaan kansanmusiikkiyhdistys (Folk Music Society of County Uusimaa) were founded a few years earlier. Espoon kansanmusiikkikilta became a part of these two Societies.
During the first years popular evening concerts were arranged at Näkövammaisten ammattikoulu (The Trade School for the Blind). On summers some park concerts were also arranged.
